The Pi²R iX can be used with any existing 50-300 Liter geyser as is. Power is fed to the geyser as usual, however temperature is additionally monitored by a separate temperature sensor. The existing thermostat is used to easily connect the power cables, but set to maximum (70° Celsius) to also function as a safety cut-off. An external DB timer is not needed (when used with the optional Display) as the Display automates functionality.
The iX can operate in off-grid installations as it draws power from either Grid or PV for its internal circuitry. The Display also charges from either Grid or PV and has a big enough battery to last through the night. We do however recommend that off-grid installations use an optional higher capacity battery for the display as this will help during winter time when nights are a bit longer.

Frequently asked questions
-
Do the iX/Mocro feed the element with DC?
-
No.
-
The modified wave is safe to controll with the existing thermostat.
-
-
What is the maximum power I can connect to the iX?
-
The important part is to stay below 325Vmp (350Voc) input.
-
240Vmp with a 4kW element is the recommended Maximum.
-
If too much Amps are available, the element will limit itself.
-
-
Why not use 30-40V?
-
Because we feed the standard 230V element, we need a bit higher voltage than our competitors with dedicated low voltage DC element.
-
-
Can I connect panels with more than 15A output?
-
Yes.
-
The iX measures the input current and will limit itself to not draw too much amps.
-
-
My panels are capable of 20A, why is the iX not using all of it?
-
Firstly, the element only draws what it wants on a certain voltage. See power throuhput formula.
Secondly, the iX limits itself to draw only 15A as not to damage its internal components.
